“Anyone who wants to get into comedy writing should do one of Dave's courses. He's a right laugh and I think there were biscuits" Sian Harries, writer, Man Down

DAYTIME COURSES FOR 2017

I'm running a number of courses between now and January. The problem is, it’s hard to book courses too far in advance without knowing what dates people can make. So I’ve come up with a list of alternative dates, each course taking place at The London Canal Museum (nr King’s Cross) from 10am-4pm  Please get back to me as soon as possible and let me know which dates, if any, suit you best.

STAND UP WRITE NOW

Whether you’ve broken into the circuit, are looking to build your first Edinburgh hour, or have only just started out, this course is for you. Plenty of comedians get a long way with their initial burst of material, but you need to be constantly generating new jokes. New material forces you to think in new ways on stage. It’s frightening but liberating!

Tuesday 21 November

Friday 1 December

Wednesday 10 January

CREATING ONLINE COMEDY

In the last couple of years online comedy has developed into a major breakthrough area for new writers and performers. This course provides a firm grounding in how to make the best impact on screen and, equally important, how to market the end product.

Tuesday 28 November

Tuesday 5 December

WRITING FOR BBC RADIO

This is a course aimed at learning to write topical comedy for the BBC - the only company actively seeking input from new comedy writers, especially for Newsjack. Even if you're not that engaged by the news, we look at how you can turn today's big stories into tomorrow's comedy gold. Crucially, this course is also about how to deal with rejection!

Wednesday 29 November

Tuesday 9 January

Friday 12 January

LET’S WRITE A SITCOM (2 days)

The ever-popular course that looks at how to create your sitcom from scratch – from working out what’s it about, through creating characters and stories onto making it shine and stand out. On day one we work out what it is we want to write, and how to create characters, on day two we flesh out the stories, work out the structure, and add some magic sparkle.

Wednesday 22 November (day 1)

Friday 24 November          (day 2)

Wednesday 6 December   (day 1)

Friday 8 December            (day 2)

“Having worked in the industry for a decade, I know it’s rare and precious to find someone who’s keen to encourage and support new talent and Dave’s course does exactly that.” Janine H. Jones sitcom writer and producer, BBC Wales
