MAKE A LIVING WRITING COMEDY
WRITE YOUR SITCOM
WEDNESDAY 15 AND THURSDAY 16 MARCH 2017
You've heard the Sitcom Geeks podcasts, now come and join award-winning writer Dave Cohen as he guides you through the steps of becoming a professional comedy writer:
Wednesday 15: Learn about how to break in to the world of comedy writing - jokes, sketches, stand-up, creating your own content on the internet.
Thursday 16: creating your TV or radio sitcom: character, plot, dialogue and visuals, creating a believable, funny world that audiences will want to return to each week.
We’ll look at all the elements individually that together make great sitcom. We'll begin with character, also how you come up with the best ideas before you even write a word of the script - and how to create the world that your sitcom will inhabit. Then move on to creating plots, making dialogue work, and above all, JOKES. The best plots and jokes are always the ones that emerge from the comedic flaws of our main characters. We'll see how scripts have to be improved and changed on the journey from first draft to broadcast - and we'll look at visual humour, and the differences between sitcom for studio audiences and single camera.
